Two killed as SUV swept away by Ratua River

Biratnagar, June 4

Two people have died after an SUV was swept away by a flood in the Ratua River, Ilam. On Monday evening, the SUV travelling from Damak to Mangsebung was attempting to cross the Ratua River on the Damak Larumba Inner Dirt Road in Chapeti, Chulachuli Rural Municipality-5, Ilam, when a sudden flood swept it away.

According to the Ilam District Police Office, the flood claimed the lives of 30-year-old Sharmila Banem from Mangsebung Rural Municipality-5, Ilam, and 3-year-old Nihang Limbu, son of Niru Limbu from Mangsebung-3. Niru Limbu was injured and is currently receiving treatment.

Three people, including the driver, managed to save themselves by jumping out of the Lu1Cha 9491 double-cab Bolero SUV as it was swept away by the river.

The police have taken the 22-year-old driver, Netrahang Limbu, into custody.
