Khanikhola SUV accident: Thick fog hampers helicopter rescue of injured

Kavrepalanchok, August 17

The rescue of people seriously injured in an SUV accident at Syauthali in Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1, Kavrepalanchok, has been hampered by thick fog.

Although a helicopter has been arranged to rescue the injured, the heavy fog at the accident site has made it difficult for the helicopter to land.

According to Rural Municipality Chairperson Indra Bahadur Thing, a helicopter was arranged for the rescue operation, but it has been unable to land due to the thick fog.

Kavre Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari said efforts were underway to rescue the injured by helicopter from Kamidanda in Bethanchok-5 because of the dense fog at the accident site.

“The helicopter is ready. If conditions permit, efforts are being made to carry out the rescue from Kamidanda. The Nepal Army is currently conducting a feasibility assessment of the area,” he said.

Two people were killed, and three others seriously injured when the SUV crashed at Syaurathali in Khanikhola Rural Municipality on Monday morning. The deceased have been identified as Kalka Bahadur Majhi of Khanikhola-4 and Patli Maya Moktan of Khanikhola-2. The identities of the seriously injured have yet to be confirmed.

Police suspect that the accident may have been caused by brake failure.
