Traffic police halt checking drink-driving

Kathmandu, March 20

Traffic police in Kathmandu have halted checking drink-driving of the drivers and two-wheeler riders in the valley, realising that the breathalysers used in the checking could spread the infection of the novel coronavirus if the driver or rider is infected.

The chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal, says the police, however, will take the people to nearby hospitals if they are found to be under the influence on the road. From the hospitals, they will be handed over to the family and kin.

Subsequently, the division has also halted awareness classes for those driving and riding under the influence.
