Kathmandu, December 9

Here is good news for motorists, bikers and scooter riders in Kathmandu: you can pay fines for traffic offences on the spot in the valley from now onwards.

Until now, the traffic police seize documents such as driving licences and vehicle registration cards when they hand over a slip to the motorists and riders caught for traffic offences. Following that, the offenders pay a fine at the designated traffic police later and claim back the documents.

But, now onwards, the offenders will get back the documents on the spot if they pay the fines there electrically, informs the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division.

In the first phase, the service is available in Gaushala, Durbarmarg, Thapathali, Jawalakhel and Janasewa areas only, and it will be expanded in other places soon, according to SSP Janak Bhattarai, the chief of the division.

Exceptionally, offenders caught for drink-driving, lane discipline violation and the red light violation will have to attend an awareness class to get back the documents.
