Trade union condemns firing of bank employees, demands reinstatement

Kathmandu, May 27

Financial Institute Employees Union of Nepal (FIEUN) has condemned the removal of temporary employees, and those employed on the contract basis, of banks and financial institutions in Nepal during the lockdown.

In a statement on Wednesday, the organisation has demanded that they are reinstated to their posts at the earliest.

“During the crisis, instead of arranging and providing a conducive and safe environment, some life and non-life insurance companies have laid off their employees. We request the companies to reinstate them,” the statement reads. The FIEUN has also requested the Nepal Rastra Bank to take the necessary steps to reinstate them as well.

It has asked banks and financial institutions to give financial security to the families of the employees hit by the Covid-19 by providing them with insurance.
