Sunday’s meeting of three major political parties, which was aimed at ending obstructions in the Parliament, ended on an inconclusive note. Following the meeting, the Prachanda-led government is preparing to table its Constitution Amendment Bill in the Parliament.

Despite the government’s preparations towards this end, opposition parties, especially the main opposition CPN-UML, has been stating it will not let the government table the Bill in the Parliament for necessary procedures. The UML says it will let the government present the Bill without a proposal that seeks to redraw Province 5. It has also said it will let the government present Election Bills in the Parliament.

The government, on its part, is insisting that opposition parties should let it present the Amendment Bill and let the Parliament decide its fate. The United Democratic Madheshi Front, which was earlier seeking inclusion of its concerns in the Bill, softened its stance and said it will let the government present the Bill, adding that it will register its note of dissent on the Bill.

Meanwhile, RPP, which is part of the government, has said the Bill, as it stands, is unacceptable to it.
