Kathmandu, January 6

A study is beginning for the construction of flyovers at three places in the Kathmandu valley.

The Department of Roads has stated that the consultant company has been conducting a study on the construction of flyovers at Gwarko, Satdobato and Ekantakuna in Lalitpur.

The Director-General of the department, Keshav Kumar Sharma, says works have been moved ahead to prepare a detailed design for the construction of the flyovers at these places.

He adds that the bids for the contract for the construction of the structures could be opened this year.

“We can go for the contract for construction in a single place this year. The process would begin for construction of the flyover at Gwarko this year and at Satdobato and Ekantakuna in the next fiscal year,” he says.

Sharma says the overhead bridges need not be pulled down for the construction of flyovers at these two places.

“There is an option to construct the flyovers without dismantling the overhead bridges at Satdobato and Ekantakuna,” he says.

These three flyovers would be the first such structures constructed with the government’s investment. These flyovers would be of four lanes. As Sharma said, it will take from one year to 15 months for the construction of the flyovers.

The responsibility of constructing the flyover can be given to the Nepali construction companies.
