Kathmandu, May 31

Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday has said the government will take action against the persons involved in tearing ballot papers in Bharatpur Metropolitan City of Chitwan district even if they are found to be members of his own party.

He says actions will be taken against them as per the recommendation of a committee formed by the Election Commission.

“I felt very bad about the Bharatpur incident and directed the Election Commission to probe immediately,” Dahal told his party leaders during a Parliamentary Party meeting today, “I have told them not to spare any person found guilty.”

The main opposition CPN-UML has accused the Maoist party of intentionally tearing the ballot papers after fearing the defeat of their party. Police have also arrested two Maoist cadres in connection with the incident.

“Hopefully, the investigation team will submit its report today,” Dahal said, “Whatever it will recommend will be implemented.”

Meanwhile, Dahal also directed leaders of his party to promote achievements of his government among public and cash in on them for a better performance in the second phase of local level elections.

In another context, he also clarified that the Maoist party would extend support to the Nepali Congress to lead the next government.
