Achham, May 25

A test flight has been successfully conducted at Sanphebagar Airport in Nepalgunj, 13 years after the operation was shut.

A Summit Air Plane successfully carried out the test flight from Simikot of Humla to Nepalgunj on Friday.

According to Sanphebagar Municipality Mayor Kul Bahadur Kunwar, the airport was shut for blacktopping. “Now that the blacktopping and repair works have completed, we carried out the test,” he stated.

The airport was closed after former Maoists attacked and destroyed the control tower of the airport during the conflict era. Regular flights will commence after the terminal tower is fully repaired, he added.

Locals of Achham, Bajura and Doti say they are happy that the airport is resuming service.
