Kathmandu, October 15
The Social Welfare Council, a government body to regulate activities of national and international non-government organisations, has blocked the efforts of CPN-UML-aligned Manmohan Memorial Health Foundation to bring in Rs 4 billion foreign assistance from India.
The Foundation led by veteran UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari had filed an application around three months ago seeking the Council’s approval to utilise the support. However, the Council found that the NGO did not meet all requirements, hence halted the process, informs Council’s Member-Secretary Dilli Prasad Bhatta.
Bhatta says the NGO was directed to come back after meeting all criteria, but the organisation has not approached the Council since then.
Adhikari, however, claims no application was filed to approve the foreign assistance.
Another UML leader Rajendra Pandey, however, accepts that the organisation’s bid to utilise the money failed.
Pandey leads the Nepal Health Care Cooperative Limited, which has the Foundation as one of its constituents.
