Kathmandu, August 8

The Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens on Tuesday suspended the Member Secretary of Social Welfare Council, Dilli Prasad Bhatta, so as to launch a probe into his suspected involvement in irregularities at the Council.

The Council is the governing body for all national and international non-government organisations working in the country. NGOs and INGOs cannot launch any project without the Council’s approval.

The Ministry has given the responsibility of Member Secretary to its Joint Secretary, Bir Bahadur Rai.

A source at the Ministry informs that the Ministry has received some complaints about his involvement in irregularities and embezzlement of funds. He is accused of taking money from donor agencies and NGOs, capturing properties of the Council for personal use and tampering with the meeting minutes.
