The Supreme Court has barred government school teachers from voting in internal elections of political parties.

A single bench of Justice Tej Bahadur KC issued an interim order on Sunday in response to a writ petition filed by Bhakta Bahadur Basnet among others, claiming some teachers have been elected delegates to the ongoing 14th national general convention of the Nepali Congress and that is illegal.

The court has told the defendants in the case to stop such teachers from participating in the voting.

Earlier, the Election Commission had also told the parties to stop giving membership to teachers and other public office holders, warning them of action if any such case is found.
