The Supreme Court has ordered Nepal Police to release serial killer Charles Sobhraj. He has spent 19 years in jail.

The order was given by a bench of justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Til Prasad Shrestha.

Sobhraj, through his lawyers, had repeatedly filed writs at the Supreme Court asking for his release.

The court has ordered Sobhraj to be released within 15 days and deported to his home country, France.

District Court Bhaktapur had sentenced him to life in prison for murdering an American Connie Joe Bronzich and Canadian Laurent Carriere in 1975 in Nepal.

He was caught by Nepal Police in 2003.
