Kathmandu, January 4

The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice, ordering Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to explain why he expanded the cabinet even after the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

A single bench of Justice Anil Kumar Sinha issued the order on Monday in response to two writ petitions filed by senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and advocate Lokendra Oli.

Likewise, the court has summoned the plaintiffs and defendants to present themselves for the next hearing on January 12, informs a court official.

Oli had reshuffled his cabinet on December 25, filling the vacancies created by seven ministers’ resignation expressing dissatisfaction with his decision to dissolve the House of Representatives.

Claiming that the government has already turned into a caretaker one after the dissolution of the House and expanding it was against the constitution, the petitioners had moved the court demanding an interim order.
