Kathmandu, May 26

The Supreme Court has overturned its previous verdict to cut short the sentence of former police officer Ranjan Koirala, convicted of his wife’s murder.

On July 23, 2020, the court cut short the life imprisonment to 8.5 years and released him. But, a full bench of the court today reversed the decision.

It means Koirala has to go back to jail to complete his sentence, informs the apex court spokesperson Bimal Paudel.

Paudel informs the full bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and justices Tanka Bahadur Moktan and Kumar Chudal overturned the verdict issued by the then Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana and Justice Tej Bahadur KC.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, the Office of the Attorney-General had filed an appeal at the apex court, demanding a review.

Because Ranjan Koirala had just completed 8.5 years behind bars, he will now have to serve the remaining part of the 20-year imprisonment.

Accordingly, he will be jailed for 11.5 years now.
