Sudurpaschim govt presents Rs 37.70 billion budget for current FY

Dhangadhi, October 11

The Sudurpaschim provincial government has presented a budget of Rs 37.7039 billion for the current fiscal year 2083/84.

Economic Affairs Minister Chakra Bahadur Malla presented the budget in the provincial assembly on Sunday, two months after the formation of the new government.

Malla presented a budget of the same size as the one introduced by former Finance Minister Bikram Singh Dhami.

The government has estimated Rs 1.72 billion in internal revenue mobilisation, Rs 10.24 billion in grants from the Government of Nepal, and Rs 70 million from the distribution of federal royalties as sources of funding.

Similarly, the budget estimates Rs 9.0633 billion in fiscal equalisation grants from the federal government, Rs 9.35 billion in unspent funds carried over from the previous fiscal year, and Rs 6.03 billion in federal conditional grants.

The government has also projected Rs 380 million in federal complementary grants and Rs 520 million in special grants.

The budget was presented after the provincial assembly failed to pass the budget introduced on June 15 by the government led by Kamal Bahadur Shah. An alliance government comprising the CPN-UML and the CPN was subsequently formed.

The budget comes two months after CPN leader Khagaraj Bhatt became chief minister with the support of the CPN-UML.
