Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has said the government has successfully maintained peace and security in the country in its one year of operation.

Speaking at an event in Pokhara, Thapa said that the government was successful in bringing separatists groups into mainstream politics.

“We reached an agreement with the separatist groups so that the national integrity isn’t harmed,” he said.

Thapa further added that the government was working to make sure the anti-constitutional groups would not harm the people and said that plans for talks were ongoing with such groups.

“Groups like those led by Biplav [Netra Bikram Chand] are a threat to national security and we are dealing with them accordingly. That said, we are looking at holding talks with them. We hope they will soon come and hold talks with us,” Thapa added.

He added that the government had only put a ban on Biplav’s anti-constitutional activities and that the government was open if they wanted to join mainstream politics.

Thapa also added that reconstruction work in storm-hit Bara and Parsa would be complete briskly as the government had already prepared a plan to do.
