Naya Shakti Party Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai has said he is still to the goal of his party about establishing an alternative political force though he has agreed to merge the party with a broader communist force to be formed after the unification between CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre.
“The need of Naya Shakti (new force) in Nepal is historic as it is the global trend today. Therefore, we are still committed to our goal of establishing an alternative political force,” he says in an interview with Onlinekhabar, “But, the paths to reach the goal change as time changes. There is not a single way to reach the goal. That is why we slightly turned our path.”
The former prime minister claims the party has decided to join the leftist alliance which aims to unify major communist forces of the country with a hope that it will establish a stable government and meet people’s expectations about development and prosperity.
Bhattarai claims the proposed unification among three parties–UML, Maoist Centre and Naya Shakti–will take plae soon and their decision to contest the polls jointly does not have party-wise political interests.
“Everything is doubted as a conspiracy in Nepal, but we should rise above that,” he says, “We need to analyse if such historic and great moves are for the betterment of the country and its people.”
The merger of leftist progressive forces is a need of the hour and it is not for elections, according to him.
Meanwhile, the leader proposes that the current election symbol of CPN-UML, the sun, can be used as the symbol of unified party.
“We are yet to make any decision, but I propose we go with the common symbol,” he says, “Because the sun is already popular among public, it will be appropriate for the unified party to take up that icon.”
