Singhadurbar open for Sarkari journos, shut for private media?

Karmachari-Poshak-anugamanKathmandu, April 7

Guards stationed at the south gate of Singhadurbar, the government secretariat, which also houses the Parliament Secretariat, on Thursday barred journalists, save ‘Sarkari (government) journalists’, from entering Singhadurbar premises for some time, citing orders from high above.

Citing orders from high above, guards stationed at Singhadurbar denied entry to journalists from private media for some time on Thursday.

But the guards let in journalists associated with the state-owned Nepal Television and Radio Nepal.

Journalists had reached the south gate to cover the Regulations Committee’s election. Those denied entry said the guards stopped them citing orders from high above. In the afternoon, however, the guards let the journalists in.

Yadav Prasad Koirala, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs, said no decision has been taken to deny journalists entry (to Singhadurbar).
