The month of Shrawan is considered to be holy by Hindus all over the world.
On the first Monday of the month, devotees from all over gather at Pashupatinath to worship Lord Shiva. The day is especially considered to be auspicious.
In Nepal, women maintain an austere fast for the day and wear green, yellow and red. It is believed that wishes of those, who fast every Monday of the month of Shrawan, are fulfilled.
Some also maintain a partial fast by eating fruits and nuts for the day in the hopes to blessed with an fulfilling life.
Apart from worshiping and fasts, devotees also read prayers and perform austerities during the month.
There are a total of five Mondays in Shrawan this year. This occurrence is considered to be more auspicious. It is believed that energies are more prevalent in the cosmos during the month.
