Seven leaders have fielded candidatures for the position of Nepal Student Union president. According to the Election Committee, the registration of candidacies will end shortly.
For the top position, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Gagan Thapa-Pradip Poudel camps in the Nepali Congress are fielding Nain Singh Mahar.
The Ram Chandra Poudel camp is fielding Manoj Mani Acharya and Ananda Prasad Tripathi. NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel is supporting Acharya, whereas another leader Shekhar Koirala is backing Tripathi.
Shubha Ram Basnet, Bachan Karki, Nagendra Singh Thakuri and Laxman Acharya are also vying for NSU presidency.
Five candidates — Rajesh Gyawali, Kundan Kafle, Saroj Thapa, Himal Dutta Shrestha and Dipak Bhatta — are eyeing the position of NSU general secretary, whereas four candidates are striving for treasurer’s position.
