Salman Khan’s Nepal tour postponed following threats from splinter Maoist group

Kathmandu, March 2

Bollywood super star’s Salman Khan show Kathmandu, scheduled to begin for Saturday next week, has been postponed indefinitely, orgnisers say.

This comes days after the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, a splinter Maoist outfit, said it would not allow the show to take place.

According to the organisers of the event, Bollywood stars Sonakshi Sinha, Prabhu Deva and Manish Paul were also set to perform at the event, ‘Dabang Tour’. The event was being organised to promote tourism in Nepal following the devastating earthquake of 2015.

The splinter Maoist group has stepped up the rhetoric against India in the recent months. The party recently imposed a nationwide shutdown following a clash with police in Biratnagar. Netra Bikram Chand, one of the commanders of the former rebel group, broke away from the Maoist party in 2012 along with leader Mohan Baidya.

Chand severed ties with Baidya again in 2014 calling him ‘incapable’ of leading the party and class struggle ahead. The party has also claimed responsibility for a spate of IED blasts across the country during the recent elections.

Meanwhile, Organisers of the event say they are in touch with Khan and would announce new dates soon. Those who have already bought tickets can either return them or wait.
