The Madan Puraskar Guthi has awarded the 2082 Madan Puraskar to Bina Joshi (Rajbhandari) for her book Traditional Masked Dances of the Newa Community.
The Guthi announced Joshi’s book as the winner of the Madan Puraskar on Sunday.
The top 10 books shortlisted for the Madan Puraskar had already been announced. Among them, Joshi’s book on traditional masked dances of the Newa community was selected for the 2082 Madan Puraskar, said Kunda Dixit, chairperson of the Madan Puraskar Guthi.
Since 2072 BS, the Guthi has been selecting up to 10 works from among the books submitted to it and publishing a shortlist. Under the Guthi’s rules, books containing a substantial amount of previously unpublished material are considered among the selection criteria.
Established in 2012 BS, the Madan Puraskar Guthi first awarded the Madan Puraskar in 2013 BS to three works in the categories of prose, social sciences and science.
In its inaugural year, the award was presented to Satya Mohan Joshi’s Hamro Lok Sanskriti in prose, Chittaranjan Nepali’s General Bhimsen Thapa ra Tatkalin Nepal in social sciences, and Balaram Joshi’s Adhikvibhav Sthirvidyut Utpadak in science.
Since then, the award has been given to outstanding works published in the Nepali language.
The prize money has been Rs 400,000 since 2075 BS.
