Kathmandu, March 17
In its bid to protect the commuters from the novel coronavirus infection, Sajha Yatayat, a cooperative that provides public bus service in Kathmandu, has begun spraying the surface of its buses with sanitiser. Likewise, the cooperative says it will avoid cramming passengers as far as possible.
The cooperative’s officiating chief executive officer Mahendra Pandey says the buses’ seats, handles and the overall inner surfaces are sanitised before they leave for the service every morning. They are sanitised repeatedly throughout the day. The decision is being implemented since last Saturday, according to him.
“Our first priority is the safety of our passengers,” he states, “We have also been informing the passengers about their health with fliers prepared by the Department of Health Services and ourselves.” He claims the bus drivers and conductors are regularly examined for any infection.
“We have begun it. Hopefully, others will follow us,” he says.
