Rupandehi police arrest main suspect of two-week-old gang rape case

Police in Rupandehi district of western Nepal on Saturday night arrested a person for his alleged involvement in a gang rape case around two weeks ago.

The investigators claim Bishnu Tharu Chaudhary is the main suspect of the case.

Police Inspector Shankar Pokharel says that the 22-year-old, a permanent resident of Gaidahawa rural municipality-8, was arrested from Suryapura area of the district last night.

Earlier, police had arrested 30-year-old Jeevan Gyawali in connection with the case. Gyawali leads the recently launched Prime Minister Employment Programme in his village.

Two women were gang-raped at Hasanapur, Gaidahawa in the night of June 17. The victims had filed a complaint with police three days after the incident.

Though the victims claimed around 15 people raped them, they could not identify all the suspects as the victims were also drunk, according to police.
