Rupandehi erupts in protest as Prachanda government moves ahead with plan to split Province 5

Kathmandu, November 30

Butwal has erupted in protests with the Prachanda government registering in the Parliament a Constitution Amendment Bill that seeks to split Province 5. Student unions are staging demonstrations on the streets of Butwal, transport movement has come to a halt, while bazaars and factories have downed shutters. The Bill has sparked protests in Province 4 as well. In Province 5, student unions like ANNFSU, ANNFSU and Pressure Group for Undivided Province 5 (Lumbini) have called a shutdown.

The government move of going ahead with its plan of splitting Province 5 has sparked demonstrations in Butwal and other parts of the province.

From midnight, people started protesting by burning tyres. On Wednesday morning, there were demonstrations at Milanchok, Butwal Multiple Campus and Chauraha, among other places.

Coordinator of the pressure group, Bishnu Pokharel, told Onlinekhabar they have announced an indefinite Rupandehi district bandh from 11 am on Wednesday.
