RPP wants Guthi Bill scrapped

Kamal Thapa addresses a press meet in Kathmandu, on Sunday, June 23, 2019.

Kathmandu, June 23

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has demanded that the government immediately scrap the controversial Guthi Bill.

Owing to widespread protests, the government has already withdrawn the bill from Parliament. However, stakeholders including locals of Kathmandu have been demanding that the bill be scrapped as it was brought with an intention of letting land mafia embezzle guthi lands.

Expressing solidarity with the demand, the Kamal Thapa-led Hindu nationalist party also demanded that a new bill replace the controversial one.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon, Thapa said the bill if endorsed as it is would destroy centuries-old religion and culture of the country.

Meanwhile, an extended meeting of the party’s central committee also decided to hold the next general convention by June next year, according to Thapa.
