Revolutionary Maoists’ Badal group to unite with Prachanda’s party, Kiran warns against move

Prachanda-Baidhya-Unity

Kathmandu, May 10

The Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal faction of the Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Revolutionary Maoist is taking a formal decision on Tuesday to unite with the UCPN-Maoist. For taking this decision, party general secretary Badal has called a meeting of the party central committee at the office of the Newa State Committee in Kupandole at 1 pm, Pampha Bhusal, Revolutionary Maoist Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal informed. Bhusal said the party will take a decision to unite with the UCPN-Maoist. Preparations are afoot to unite the Badal faction with the Prachanda-led Maoist party within the first week of Jestha (in about a week).

The Badal faction has invited Mohan Baidhya ‘Kiran’ for the meeting, but he is not attending it. Baidhya is against unity with the UCPN-Maoist and has warned that he will take action against those, who attend the meeting.

But a majority of Revolutionary Maoist’s central committee members are in favour of uniting with the UCPN-Maoist. In a signature campaign initiated to forge unity with the Prachanda-led party, 125 of 199 central committee members put their signatures in favour of unification, the Badal faction claims.

About four years ago, the Mohan Baidhya-led faction had split from the UCPN-Maoist and formed Revolutionary Maoist under Baidhya.

About seven months ago, another faction under Baburam Bhattarai had parted ways with the UCPN-Maoist and formation of a new force called Naya Shakti Nepal.

A look into the history of leftist movement in Nepal shows disintegration is common among faction-riddled communist parties of Nepal. This has taken a toll on the country’s communist movement, leaving the movement in chaos and obscuring their agendas like land reforms and social justice.
