Kathmandu, December 17
The Kaski District Court has granted police permission to keep Rabi Lamichhane, chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), in custody for an additional four days. He is under investigation in connection with the Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case, court official Rajan Khanal confirmed.
On Tuesday, police requested the court to extend Lamichhane’s remand by four days. Alongside him, other suspects, including Gorkha Media’s former vice-chair Chhabilal Joshi, Nature Herbs operator Ram Bahadur Khanal, and GB Rai’s associate Lila Pachaain, were also presented to the court for an extension of their detention.
Police had submitted the investigation report to the District Government Attorney’s Office on Monday, 84 days after launching a probe into the cooperative fraud case based in Pokhara.
The report identifies 51 individuals, including Lamichhane, as defendants in the case, with 37 of them still at large. Police have recommended filing claims for compensation amounting to Rs 1.51 billion against the accused.
