Congress’ women MPs: We want Arzu in National Assembly

Kathmandu, January 22

The Nepali’s Congress’ women members of Parliament representing constituencies in Province 7 have demanded that the party field Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s wife Arzu Deuba in the National Assembly elections.

MPs  Dibyeshwari Shah, Umadevi Badi, Nanda Bam and Ambika Kumari Thapa argue that important issues are at risk of being sidelined as a limited number of women have been elected to the House of Representatives. Nepali Congress MP Dibyeshwari Shah said that Deuba’s presence in Parliament was needed to raise issues related to women’s rights.

The party’s heads of districts that fall under Province 7 have also expressed solidarity with the MPs, said NC’s Dadeldhura District chief and MP Karna Bahadur Malla.

Deuba was NC’s candidate for the Kailali-5 seat in the lower House. However, she was defeated by the UML’s Narad Muni Rana.
