Tamghas, December 6

The movement against the government-sponsored plot to remove Hill districts from Province 5 through a Constitution Amendment Bill entered its seventh day on Tuesday. In Gulmi district headquarters Tamghas, people staged a demonstration against the plot, even as the strike enforced against the plot continued to cause hardships to people.

Government offices remained shut on Tuesday as well and so did main bazaars and industries in rural as well as urban areas. Both long and short-route vehicles remained off the road.

In Arkhale of Gulmi, enforcers seized four jeeps, one bus and a motorcycle on the charge of defying the strike. FNCCI, political parties, student unions and members of the public have been staging a sit-in at Gulmi district administration office and Gulmi district development committee against the plot.

Educational institues, though, have remained open in view of half-yearly examinations, Madhu Krishna Panta, a member of the joint movement organising committee, informed.

The organisers have also formed teams of volunteers to manage the movement. The committee has decided not to use flags of different parties during the movement. It decided to use the national flag only.

Durga Pandey, president of FNCCI (Gulmi), said local people have launched a movement as the government is trying to amend the Constitution to appease a few political parties by undermining the desires of the public at large.
