Over 82 structures damaged, 5 schools affected by windstorm in Gulmi

Heavy windstorms accompanied by rainfall have caused widespread damage to houses, sheds, schools, and other physical structures in Gulmi district. According to the District Police Office, more than 82 structures across the district have been damaged so far, while five schools and educational institutions have also been affected, said Gulmi Police Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhim Kiran Bogati.

Police said the windstorm and rainfall that occurred on Monday night did not cause any human or livestock casualties. Malika Rural Municipality suffered the most damage. In Malika Rural Municipality alone, 66 houses, sheds, toilets, cooperative buildings, temples, and schools were damaged. SP Bogati said the tin roofs of Devisthan Secondary School and Bhairav Kali Boarding School in Ward No. 7 were damaged.

Police also reported that the roof of the toilet at Suryodaya Basic School in Ward No. 5 was blown away. In Madane Rural Municipality, nine houses and sheds were damaged. In Musikot Municipality, the tin roofs of three houses were destroyed, particularly in the Bhedi area of Wards No. 2 and 3. Police said the windstorm overturned the tin roof of the science laboratory building of Shree Shringa Janata Secondary School in Chhatrakot Rural Municipality-4. One educational institution was affected in the municipality.

Similarly, the tin roof of Suryodaya Basic School in Ward No. 4 of Isma Rural Municipality was completely blown away. Several houses in the area were also damaged, police said. According to available details, at least three structures were damaged in Isma Rural Municipality. The District Police Office said police teams from the respective police posts and temporary police units are collecting details from the affected areas. Police added that the number of affected houses could increase as damage assessment is still underway.
