Citing the Covid-19 crisis pushed the province’s economy to a chronic stage, the Province 1 government has prohibited the use of government budget on tea parties.

The Provincial Ministry of Financial Affairs and Planning says it has recently issued a circular to all the bodies under the provincial government barring them from spending a penny on tea parties and hospitality. Likewise, they have been barred from spending money on visits, meetings, training, furniture, and software until the next notice.

After he fired Minister Indra Bahadur Angbo from the job due to a recent division in the Nepal Communist Party, Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai himself leads the ministry now.

Commenting on the recent decision, Chief Minister Rai says he recently learned about the economic crisis in the province after the budget plan for this year got endorsed. “The government will move smoothly only after successfully treating this problem,” he says.
