Protesting bumpy road, Bauddha locals clash with police

Locals of Bauddha and Jorpati stage a protest, in Kathmandu, on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

Kathmandu, May 9

Locals of Bauddha and Jorpati area in northeastern Kathmandu resorted to streets on Thursday protesting the bumpy road in the area. They demanded that the government blacktop the road at the earliest.

Police, however, tried to disperse the protesters using force. In retaliation, the demonstrators clashed with law enforcers.

The road’s blacktopping was removed around four years ago to lay pipelines for Melamchi Water Supply Project. It is not blacktopped since then.

The locals also shut down shops in the area for a few hours this morning.

Meanwhile, chief of the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, Uttam Raj Subedi, says the tension in the area has already ended now.
