Birgunj, November 24

The ongoing protest at National Medical College in Birgunj of Parsa district is likely to continue for the next few days also as a meeting held among the college administration, students and the government representatives failed to produce any result.

Earlier on Friday, the protesting students were beaten by some other students and the protestors have accused the college administration of mobilising the attackers to foil the protest. The students are on strike for the past few weeks demanding that the college refund them the excess fee collected from the students going against the rule.

During the Saturday meeting, they discussed whether to form an investigation team to look into the attack or arrest the students involved in the case. After the government representatives and the college administration proposed forming a committee and resume teaching-learning activities, the protesting students walked out of the meeting.

The protesters have demanded that the college refund the excess fee at the earliest and arrest those involved in the attack before launching an investigation.

The Chief District Officer Narayan Bhattarai had led the government side whereas the owner of the college, Basaruddin Ansari, was also present at the meeting on Saturday.

Meanwhile, various student organisations affiliated to major political parties have expressed their solidarity with the protest.
