Kathmandu, January 24

President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s advisor Sushil Pyakurel has resigned from his position on Friday.

Though Pyakurel, a longtime human rights activist, has not mentioned the reason for his resignation in a press statement issued to inform the media about his decision, it has been learned that he was dissatisfied with the recent decision of ruling Nepal Communist Party’s decision to nominate Agni Prasad Sapkota for the speaker of House of Representatives. Sapkota has been accused of a murder during the armed conflict.

Pyakurel states that he resigned “to contribute to the citizens’ aspirations of maintaining everyone’s equal position in front of the law.” He adds that constitutional bodies should incorporate fundamental values of good governance and promote high political values and ethics.

He had also served as an advisor to the president during her first term before 2015.
