Kathmandu, March 8

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended her wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to all women on the occasion of 110th International Women’s Day. The day is celebrated across the world today with the theme of ‘Generation of Equality: End violence, discrimination and inequality’.

In her statement, the president said, “Our constitution includes all the provisions that are required for the gender equality and that helps in elimination of all kinds of violence and discrimination against women. The Sustainable Development Goals also are focused on achieving gender equality, to minimise inequality, peace process and justice in favour of women by 2030. The Nepal government is also moving forward prioritising such goals in its policies, system and work plan.”

Bhandari shared her words of encouragement and asked all the rights activists to work on the issues of gender inequality with more enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, various programmes are being organised around the Kathmandu Valley to mark the day. Annual programmes by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior citizens for the day, however, have been cancelled amid the coronavirus threats.
