President presents government’s policies and programmes at House

Kathmandu, May 25

President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday afternoon presented the government’s policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year in Parliament.

The President read out the document submitted to her by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal just before her address to the legislative.

During the address, the President said the government successfully concluded the first phase of local level elections in three provinces recently and it was planning to hold the second phase of polls in remaining places on June 14.

She added that the constitution implementation process would get its full shape after holding the polls at provincial and federal levels by January next year and the government would allocate sufficient resources for them.

Meanwhile, the President said policies and programmes of the current year had been taken as a base for the policies and programmes and the budget statement for the next fiscal.

She said post-earthquake reconstruction works, administrative reforms and expansion of capital market would be the government’s priorities.

Likewise, investment from private sector and members of the public in hydropower development and development of alternative energies would be promoted, announced the President.

She said tourism would be established as a foundation of the national economy and air travel would be made safer in the country.

The President also read out policies and programmes proposed for education, health, youth empowerment, sports, forest and nature conservation, social security, science and technology among others.

She said improvements in diplomatic ties with neighbours and other friendly nations, participation of non-resident Nepalis in the national development process, implementation of the national security policy, mobilisation of Nepal Army in natural disaster management and development works would also be priorities of the government next year.

She concluded her half-hour speech by stating the government was committed to implementing the constitution.
