President Paudel gracing historic Bhagawati jatra in Palpa

Lumbini, August 27

The Ranaujireshwori Bhagawati Rath Jatra, a chariot procession celebrating the goddess, is being held in Palpa today. The jatra is organized annually on the day after Krishna Janmashtami to commemorate Nepal’s victory in the Anglo-Nepal War at Tansen.

President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to attend the chariot procession and the 205th victory rally, according to the Chief District Officer in Palpa, Anand Kafle. The Amannarayan chariot procession is also taking place today, with the Amannarayan chariot parading the streets before the Bhagawati chariot.

On this occasion, the Lumbini Province government has declared a holiday in the Palpa district. The jatra commemorates the victory of Nepali warriors over the British in the Tansen War.

Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa prepared the chariot in 1876 BS, and it continues to be used for the celebration today. It is the largest festival and jatra observed in Palpa district. In a message on this occasion, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chet Narayan Acharya, emphasized the need to preserve historic and cultural heritage, suggesting that they can be linked to the tourism circuit.

He wished the Ranaujireshwori jatra would help foster harmony among people from diverse cultures and castes.
