The Prachanda government is not registering its Constitution amendment proposal even on Sunday.

Instead of tabling the proposal, Sunday’s Cabinet meeting decided to continue striving for a political understanding.

Prachanda informed the meeting efforts aimed at reaching an understanding are on. A meeting of ruling parties held earlier had decided to register the proposal in the Parliament after holding discussions with United Democratic Madheshi Front. The Cabinet will meet on Monday as well.

The main opposition CPN-UML has made it clear it will not support the government-sponsored Charter amendment initiative. The main opposition is against redrawing of Province 5 boundaries and against making naturalised citizens eligible for nine important constitutional positions.
