Kathmandu, October 17

Police arrested 21 leaders of the banned Maoist party led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ in Dang district of Province 5 on Thursday morning.

Acting on a tip-off that the leaders were having a meeting at a private house in Gadhawa of the district, law enforcers had raided the meeting venue. DSP Nawaraj Pokharel from the Province 5 Police Office says the Rapti bureau of the party was conducting the meeting there.

DSP Pokharel confirms the arrest but says details are not available yet.

It has been learned that the arrestees include Biplav’s elder brother Chandra Bahadur Chand, who is the mid-western bureau commander of the party.

The arrestees have been taken to the District Police Office for further action.
