Kathmandu, June 23

CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel has assured that his party will take action against leaders of his party who demanded bribe from cadres for issuing candidacy tickets for local level elections.

Speaking with journalists in Biratnagar of Morang district today, he also assured actions against the party leaders who would be contesting the polls against official candidates of the party.

Pokharel’s statement comes after a veteran leader of the party in Madhumalla of Morang district, Bhesh Raj Kafle, announced he quit the party citing that provincial committee leaders demanded Rs 2.1 million from him for the candidacy.

Kafle had also complained that the party did not heed his claim.

Meanwhile, Pokharel accused leaders of ruling parties of violating the election code of conduct.

Saying that various ministers engaged themselves in electioneering activities of their respective parties, Pokharel said the Election Commission also remained a mute spectator to the breach.
