Pelican crossing installed in Babarmahal to aid pedestrians

Pelican crossing

Kathmandu, November 27

A pelican crossing has been installed in Babarmahal to facilitate pedestrian road crossing. The push-button traffic light has been installed opposite the Kathmandu District Court.

Currently, automatic traffic lights are operational at various intersections in the Kathmandu valley.

Jagatman Shrestha, the traffic advisor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has stated that a pelican crossing has been established to enable pedestrians to activate the traffic lights by pressing a button. The installation cost for the pelican crossing is Rs 1 million.

“The light will turn green for the pedestrian to cross the road two minutes after they press the button,” said Shrestha.

Shrestha added the metropolis is in the process of installing traffic lights with similar technology in front of 36 different schools across Kathmandu.
