Parties get symbols for National Assembly elections

Kathmandu, December 25

The Election Commission has distributed symbols for 11 parties registered for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 23, 2020.

When the commission had called the parties to register for the polls, only 11 parties had shown up. The commission’s spokesperson Girija Sharma says a meeting of the commission distributed election symbols to them.

Meanwhile, the constitutional body also appointed election officers for the elections in every province. The appointees are as follows:

  • Province 1: Medini Prasad Paudel
  • Province 2: Raj Kumar Khatiwada
  • Province 3: Mahendra Kumar Karki
  • Gandaki: Kali Bahadur Rai
  • Province 5: Ritendra Thapa
  • Karnali: Rajendra Kumar Karmacharya
  • Sudurpaschim: Bidur Kaphle

As per the election laws, the commission picked district judges as election officers.

The January 23 elections will elect 18 members of the 59-member Upper House of the Federal Parliament.
