Kathmandu, December 30

The United Democratic Madheshi Front has decided not to let the government conduct elections if the Parliament rejects the Constitution Amendment Bill. The front has demanded the passage of the Bill before the announcement of election date, at a time when the government is preparing to announce the date for local level elections.

The House has not been able to hold discussions on the Bill as opposition parties, including the main opposition CPN-UML, have been obstructing the Parliament demanding its withdrawal. The obstruction has been continuing for a month. Because of this, the sovereign Parliament has not been able to hold discussions on amendment, election-related Bills and the impeachment motion against suspended CIAA Chief Commissioner Lok Man Singh Karki.

At its meetings held on Thursday and Friday, the UDMF concluded that the political crisis has only deepened because of the UML.

On January 2, UDMF has decided to organise protest assemblies in all district headquarters of the country.

It has also rejected the report of Local Level Restructuring Commission, pointing that the report is against the spirit of the Constitution.
