Kathmandu, June 4

The Parliament meeting called for Sunday has been put off till Tuesday as major political parties could not forge consensus on resuming the obstructed House.

The meeting earlier called for 11 am had been postponed till 3 pm with a hope of finding a solution, but it was postponed again for two days as the meeting of top leaders also could not find any agreement.

The meeting was scheduled to elect the new prime minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba was contesting solo for the post.

But the main opposition CPN-UML had warned of obstructing the meeting protesting the Election Commission’s decision to redo voting in ward 19 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

The UML had been obstructing the House earlier as well demanding that the halted vote counting in Bharatpur resume immediately.

The EC’s decision on Saturday has widened the gap between ruling and opposition parties.

Now, the Parliament meeting shall take place at 1 pm on Tuesday.
