Opposition leader demands Home Minister’s resignation

Kathmandu, December 7

Nepali Congress leader Dila Sangraula has demanded that Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa resign from his position at the earliest.

Sangraula says the minister should take the responsibility of the government’s failure to conclude the investigation into the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant of Kanchanpur.

“Justice has already died in Nepal. Or it is sold,” she told journalists at a function in Butwal on Friday, “Criminals are walking free under the protection of Singhadarbar.”

She said many girls like Nirmala would be deprived of justice till the entire society was aware.

In another context, she criticised the government’s performance in its first nine months.

“What did the two-thirds majority government give in this period,” she questioned, “People’s right to life has been restricted. A terrifying situation has been created due to the state.”
