Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that Nepal is ahead of many developed countries of the world in terms of women rights and women’s participation in the public sector.
Inaugurating a function organised on the occasion of first National Women Rights Day in Kathmandu on Thursday, Oli said there were some problems in the sector, but the government would gradually solve them.
“We can proudly say there there is 40 per cent women representation [in various state bodies] in our country. Most importantly, social awareness has also increased.”
The government has begun celebrating Jeth 16 of every Bikram Sambat year as National Women Rights Day commemorating the endorsement of a motion on a matter urgent public importance at the House of Representatives about citizenship in the name of mother, proportional participation and end to violence against women 13 years ago today.
Current President of the country, Bidya Devi Bhandari, had filed the motion.
