Oli must abide by the secretariat’s decision: Dahal

The ruling Nepal Communist Party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said another chairperson of the party, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, must abide by a decision made by the party secretariat about nominating the party’s vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam for the National Assembly membership.

Dahal’s statement comes at a time when the conflict between Oli and other members of the secretariat has reached its peak over the nomination. Whereas other members unanimously want the Oli-led government to nominate Gautam for the position so that the power-hungry vice-chairman feels satisfied, Oli has sensed the efforts as an attempt to remove Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada from his position. Khatiwada’s Upper House membership is expiring next week and the government has to nominate one person to the president to appoint as his successor.

Arguing that some industrialists were fuelling the efforts to remove Khatiwada, Oli says he will nominate Khatiwada again in the Upper House instead.

But, speaking with journalists in Chitwan on Friday, Dahal said, “He has to abide by the decision and he will. Just wait for a couple of days and you will learn about it.”

“I cannot imagine that he ever violates the unanimous decision made by the meeting chaired by himself and me jointly.”
