Oli ‘interrogates’ Kathmandu Mayor Shakya over passivity

R-L: KP Sharma Oli and Bidya Sundar Shakya

Kathmandu, August 1

Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli has told Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya to submit him a report about the progress the City made under his leadership in past one year.

Concerned with a wide public outcry against the passivity of capital city’s local government leadership, Oli summoned his party’s local leader Shakya to the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar recently and asked what he did and what he could not since his election around 15 months ago.

Oli also told the Mayor that his inefficiency in the work performance would affect the public image of the government and the party, directing him to improve the performance and create visible results within next one year.

In response, Shakya told the Prime Minister that he had been trying to expedite works, but there were many hurdles. He also complained that media were largely negative towards him and they promoted just what the City government could not do.

He said the local government had been blamed for inefficiency of federal and provincial governments as well.

Responding to Shakya’s complaints, Oli suggested he form a advisory committee consisting of experts to improve his performance.
